{ Soup and Crackers - With Cracker Recipe }

Today I made a delicious black eye pea soup and decided to make some homemade crackers to go with it!  The soup was basically black eye peas and pork with seasonings.  That's not the important recipe I am sharing today, though.

Crackers!  That is the main thing!  Full recipe is at the bottom of this post.

In a medium bowl combine flour, salt, baking powder, then add oil and mix until it resembles bread crumbs.  Then pour in water and stir until dough forms.
 Knead and mix until a pliable dough forms.  Then roll out thin, cut cracker shapes and pierce with fork.
 In second bowl, mix egg, sugar and balsamic vinegar.
 Brush over crackers. Put crackers onto oiled baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 20 minutes. 

They are divine!  You may want to add a little salt on top of the egg washed crackers before baking if you like the salt taste.

In a medium bowl:

1.5 cups flour (I used spelt)
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup of oil (I used olive oil)
1/2 cup of water

Egg wash:
1 egg
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp balsamic vinegar

Follow the directions above for a tasty addition to any soup.
*If using fresh ground flours you will need a little more than 1.5 cups of flour.
*Watch crackers carefully to avoid burning.
*If you want a little snack cracker, leave off the vinegar in the egg wash and add about 1 tbsp of sugar to the dough.
